Any Linux wizards around? (ghost? / Luborg?)

I have installed TS3 and ET (obvious) and I am able to get sound and mic working on TS3, and I am able to get sound on ET... But can anybody tell me how to combine this, 'cause TS is no fun without ET....

And besides that I wanted to show you the real stupid guy (looks spanish to me) in my sig :)

Remove Pulseaudio and use Alsa!
And for ET you have to get this: nullkey.ath.cx/et-sdl-sound/
(requires libSDL!).

Thats the best solution so far.

This script, called et-sdl-sound, is a wrapper for ET/Q3-games from OSS to SDL.

Works normally great, can clearly recommend it if you need to use another sound application parallel with ET.
Just my thoughts to it.

The original website is here:
nullkey.ath.cx/et-sdl-sound/

There is also an small explaination and some install instructions

I use this and I can listen to Music or speak in ts3 while I am playing

Pulseaudio is adding another software-layer for applications which don't support it natively (obviously old software can't support it).
How much more resources it needs depends on the quality of the adapter-code...

Also I've tested Teamspeak3 (which is supporting it natively) with pulseaudio and it still needs more resources than TS3 with alsa (I don't know why :/ ).

I tried to use pulseaudio more than once, but the result was always the same -> "remove pulseaudio"...

Re:teamspeak3 09 Nov 2010 00:48 #40173

+1 and +1 for ossv4 - That's my point of view too, even though i haven't tested ts3 + pulseaudio.

More moving parts is better???? hannu's blog - okokok... old blog-entry but still kind of up to date. I enjoyed the flowery language that however doesn't seem to lack of substance. ("Where is the child who finally tells that actually the emperor is naked.", "The additional machines may get jammed or the additional workers may get stroke or be disturbed by nasty insects." ...wundervoll... ^^)

About two years ago i was tired about pulseaudio, jack-audio, alsa, blaaudio. I was trying something with a 'home-recording-studio' for myself and i couldn't figure out how to get it to work (nuub!). After reading a lot of forums and manuals i saw it was even more work and probably wait for some next version of some programs and than puzzle out how to config it.

So it thought about giving 'opensound' a try in the meantime. As i use Arch it's only a few commands to set it up, and same few to get rid of it again. After 5 minutes i not even had installed it but got the 'thingy' (32-Band Software-EQ, hmmm! - almost totally senseless but awesome "yes we can!" \o/ =)) running with jackaudio on oss.

The first subjective impression about oss was bringing more brilliance and also a slightly warmth to the sound out of my damn old muddy-bloody speakers, which impression i still have, which is perfectly suiting me as i lay on the couch on some lazy afternoon in front of my linux-pc listening to ... - but that's another story. mpd+ncmpcpp <3

As it is only a few clicks away, and you can go back if you like to, i can only advice to give it a try. Sure, it has it's own little bugs and inconveniences too, it doesn't work on every system (usb-soundcards?), but about that, every one is free to choose what he prefers, aaand it got me out of that layer-over-layer-over-layer-with-yet-another-gearwheel-plus-config-hell-technology (lololwyagpcht (tm)). To choose something, you got know what to choose, so you got to try. (omagawd whata fanboi! xD ^^)

thanks for all the tips guys.
@luke, I have to use my new usb headphone, so that complicates it a bit.

I used et-sdl-sound before, but since I have that usb headphone, it didn't do the trick anymore. I probably have to find the settings to direct it to /dev/dsp1.
