unstable fps 11 Oct 2014 16:25 #49681

i used to be able to play relatively smoothly, but since i reinstalled ET after a while of absence, my fps is doing all sorts of acrobatics, mostly between 20-50 fps.
I have a Q6600 2.4GHz quad processor, 6Gb RAM and a amd radeon hd 6870, so i should not be having this problem hardware wise...apparently it has something to do with ATI drivers or something, but the atioglxx.dll didn't fix my problem. Maybe i put it in the wrong folder? Can someone pls help so i can play this awesome game again?

Seems like your topic made it here after all! :cheer:

In the tutorial section it needs to be approved first. (And Luke hates doing that...)

Edit: no idea how to fix it btw, but you already knew that.

no it was not...the drivers in the link you gave me are all outdated, so i googled and found the most recent one (at least i think it's the most recent one)
i downloaded and tried many versions, but if i'm not mistaking, this one should be the link to the file that sorted my ET out

atioglxx.dll fix

i did give the correct file to Aos-Amadeus

Thanks for the feedback!
Just a few things:
  • The link you provide here is a "ATI OpenGL driver" version 6.14.10.3966 which is from 2003 (?!) if i'm not mistaken...
  • The link Amadeus gave me amadeusdenmark.dk/ET_filer/ATI_FIX.dll is the "ATI OpenGL driver" version 6.14.10.12874, which is part of the Ati Driver Pack 14-4-win7-win8-win8.1-64-dd-ccc-whql.exe that was released earlier this year (April).

So to make it short,
basically you fixed your problem by returning the OpenGL driver to an earlier version. So it should have worked if you completely deinstalled the current Ati driver and install the old version.
I just only wondered if you had some special modified "fixed" version, but as far as i can tell it is just part of the ati driver from april.

Also i saw that you can't download older driver versions on the ati site. That is baaad... just saying... and it forces ati gfx owners to archive their drivers, so to be able to revert to the older (working) version after a not working update. I know that, i used to have ati too. Anyway...

Thanks for the info &
have fun playing finally :)
