hi all,

KW2 is as dead as the braincells of .......
the only map that is cycling there is beerdump....

so who as any suggestion to get it back to life?
All suggestions are welcome..

Maybe something good comes out of this ? who knows

The problem is not KW2 beeing a bad server. The problem is that noone wants to play there, wait and hope for other players while KW1 is full of lag fun.

You should switch their DNS entries, KW2 as the main KW for a week.

tonight we had a few really nice matches with small numbers.

mapvoting and stopwacht don t go together, because they
are different options of the same cvar - g_gametype ...
sadly, i d prefer that as well.

some of your map suggestions are alreay on it, some not,
i ll change that when i find the time.

thanks for the thread, seems that people do care about kw
in the end.

Not sure how we can revive KW2. It's a waste, that's for sure. Seems like KW has more than enough fun people around to possibly fill up both servers. Or at least fill up 40 slots on KW1 and then some.

I think it's a good idea to experiment a little. (Provided that the admin-team has enough time to do it.) Maybe we can have a poll about when people would consider playing at KW2. I guess it would be valuable to know the answers to the following questions:

1. Do you already play at KW2 or KW3 at times? If yes, why? If no, why not?
2. When applicable; when do you decide to play at another server other than KW?
3. What could be a reason for you to start playing at KW2 or KW3 more often? For example:
  • bots (less or more? and why...)
  • a different mod (which mod would you like to see?)
  • (un)limited heavy weapons (which ones, (un)limited in what way?)
  • different settings (if possible: maybe hs-only, panzer-war only or single pistol only?)
  • more (regular) players playing there
  • maps (smaller or bigger?)
  • server slots (more or less?)
  • other (whatever comes to mind, map-voting, stopwatch)

My personal opinion on these different subjects:

1. Do you already play at KW2 or KW3 at times? If yes, why? If no, why not?
Yup, at times. Personally, I don't like the chaos at KW1 when it's completely full. I prefer smaller teams (10vs10 or under). The problem is that I've often waited on KW2 for players to connect, but at times you have to be really patient for people to stick around. And often, even when they do play a map or two, they leave after once they find out a spot opened up at KW1.

2. When applicable; when do you decide to play at another server other than KW?
When I want to play a different mod, when I don't feel like talking (yes it's rare, but it happens), when KW1 is full and I grow tired of reconnecting and/or having to wait until KW2 fills up a little.

3. What could be a reason for you to start playing at KW2 or KW3 more often?

Bots
I guess it would be nice to have some bots to mess around with as long as you're waiting for others to connect. But 10vs10 bots like at KW3 is far too many imo. I would rather see 2vs2 or 3vs3 bots, that will disconnect as soon as real players join.

Different mod

Afaik KW already has a war-server. It's just not open for the public, but I don't think it gets used a lot either way. I'm not sure if a public etpro server will attract a lot of people to be honest, but who knows. I often see HBC, Hirnlos and Hirntot completely full at certain times. I guess I would prefer silent if it would lag less.

(Un)limited heavy weapons
Well you guys already know about instant kill weapons, so the idea of a server without panzers and/or rnades (without losing the garand) is very appealing to me.

Different settings
I think I would like a hs-only server, but not sure whether this is possible. Not sure whether it would be fun to play at all the time either. I guess it could be nice for very small teams though, 1on1s even. And a good way to practice making hs!

More (regular) players playing there
I think KW has a very nice community and most players play there for other players. That's probably the reason why everyone is so desperate to get into KW1. I do often connect if I see certain people playing. Not sure how you could use this for making KW2 more busy though. Set up a schedule for regulars; obligatory playing at KW2? Haha...

Maps
As long as KW2 and KW3 aren't that busy I think smaller maps are better.

Server slots
Doesn't really make a huge difference for me. Don't think more people will magically connect as soon as there are less server slots, but I could be wrong.

Other
I think stopwatch-games only work when you have enough dedicated players that will stay connected long enough in one and the same team. I don't think the teams stay stable enough on KW for that. However, I do like the idea of planning weekend matches on KW2. Everyone could join up through the forum and, with enough interest, the weekend match will take place. This way we could organize stopwatch-matches. And if there isn't any interest, KW2 will just remain the same. :)

never :) i m a faithful, gooood daaawwwggggiieeE1 :p no cookies somewhere else!

- kw1 sometimes is boring when i want to play supercereal!1! to much chaos, too much luck only surviving

- serious maps, no "fun" maps like beer run or sth

- other mod means no xp, no level, no things that we are used to on kw, so no, i d not like that

- smaller maps (which are already there now, including vanilla maps)

- server slots i don t care about when i join a server (but yeah, could be lowered within 1 minute)

- mapvoting could do the trick, saves me and other staffmembers the time and work to do cmpgs
and gives players the chance to choose for themselves

i am glad to see that i am not the only one who hates to see KW2 run empty.

There are some nice suggestions, here are my 5 cents

- i play often, but never on regular times. i play when i am bored at work and when i have the time in the evening. (call me an opportunity-player) So i can never predict when i will be online.
- a server with heavy weapons? we already have more than enough heavy weapons on KW1 and if you want to kill a lot and harvest XP, there is always KW3.
- kw2 should be nice with small maps, and limited players and weapons. single pistol is one of my favs. (i suck at that, but its fun. and when you finally have some players who want to play single pistol, there is always someone who joins who realy needs a PF... )

- some of my most pleasant games, i played on KW2 with limited players. But now, its always empty. in the evening, there are more players on KW3 than bots. (when kw1 is full)

- mapvoting should be nice. why do not give it a try? (But Hose, please dump that beer-run. i am into wine!)

- maybe a suggestion to limit the number of players on KW1 to 15vs15, and hope the rest goes to KW2? (dont shoot me for that idea...) (and its maybe positive for the lags on kw1?)

- i myself play rarely on other servers. when you look for another server lately, its always downloading a shitload of maps and stuff. And you have to clean it up afterwards. (lazy me)

- another mod? why not? i am always into for something new.

- bots on kw2? no please, we already have bots on kw3.

Hello,

Mayby you guys should try with the same MOD but another configuration, for example:

- Covert could pick up all weapons but no heavy.
- Change dmg of Heavy weapons like BAR or STG44 to much higher = 2HS and medic is dead
- Maps, campaign should be changed. Classic maps are always the best and some maps for fun like baserace. Vote for a map is always nice.
- We need some funny mods like that christmas because it's make my time in game much better.

What i would change:
1a) Add spread to SMGs (Thompson and MP40).
1b) Add a small spread to rifles (outside of _SCOPED).
2) Disable medic selfhealing. There is even a NQ CVAR setting where a medic can heal himself by healing others to enourage teamplay.
3a) Increase panzer damage on movers (this means: Trucks, tanks, etc). One panzer shot taking out a tank makes the soldier a tactical element instead of a kill stats whore
3b) Reduce their effectiveness against people: Less spread and/or damage.
4a) Make the automatic rifles (BAR and STG44) EVEN. In the default settings the BAR has only 20 bullets.
4b) Make them stronger then SMGs.

I made really positive experiences with such settings in my past at [ETC].

With settings like this i would love to join KW2 on a regular basis with other people who want to try it out.

Just played a few games on KW2. I liked the map voting system, however some were reporting that they could not vote.

KW1 is most times chaos and I imagine would appeal to a larger player base. KW2 with less players is more serious and team play orientated/critical.

The same problems, as with KW1 exist, namely balancing of teams and weapon restrictions. These are even more of an issue with less players. However, it is down to the individual players themselves and not the server configuration.

Personally, I don't really think anything needs to be changed at present, just need more players to frequent the server. Once we have more regular players then we can maybe discuss further changes, if needed, with a larger regular player base.
